With so many things going bad all around the world, it’s no wonder that many people have developed an interest for prepping and the survivalist lifestyle. If you come to think about it, it’s a natural reaction, I mean, who could blame them?
There are so many scary developments out there, ranging from natural disasters to manmade ones, like wars and failing industrial equipment (think about Fukushima folks!).
In this day and age, it’s pretty hard to make your family feel safe anymore. The society became so alienated, that sometimes you can’t even trust your next door neighbor.
Prepping is the new parlance of our times. Getting ready for all sort of things, including an economic collapse or a natural disaster became almost a natural, autoimmune reaction to our profoundly sick society.
If you wrap your mind around it, if you want to be 100% protected against almost all types of disasters, including natural (floods, tornadoes) and manmade ones (EMP/Chemical/Nuclear attacks/fallout) , an underground bunker is the obvious answer. Yes, you got that right, the underground bunker is becoming increasingly popular among doomsday preppers and survivalists. And for a good reason folks!
Basically, building your own underground bunker (or shelter if you prefer) is not very complicated and it doesn’t require a huge investment. Actually, an underground shelter can be built at a very reasonable price, especially if you’re ready (and you have the skills) to put some of your own labor into it. If you’re not the handy type of person, you can use some professional services, but the basic construction materials are quite cheap. There are lots of cost-effective methods for building yourself an underground bunker, all you need to do is some research and have the determination to get the job done.
The next step is to stockpile imperishable foods and water inside your bunker. Again, most of these items are relatively inexpensive, especially canned meat, fruits and veggies; another must-have foods (also very cheap and nutritive) you’ll need to stockpile are bulk items, like beans, rice and seeds. Keep in mind that you’ll need plenty of water, to last you and your family for a long period of time. You must consider investing in water filters and chemical means for purifying contaminated water, like iodine tablets (there are lots of methods for doing that, you should do your homework online).
Air purification is crucial in a survival situation, especially inside of an underground shelter. Chemical weapons and nuclear fallout have long lasting effects over the atmosphere, hence the air quality inside of your bunker must be your top concern. Don’t hesitate to invest in a top-notch air purifier and also provide your bunker with proper ventilation.
Another essential item for an underground bunker is a power generator. Batteries are viable solutions for small appliances like radios and flashlights, but when it comes to heating/cooking/other vital equipment, a portable generator is the answer.
Last but not least, you must realize a simple fact : you can’t predict everything, so you should expect the unexpected, your scenario is as good as mine and anything can happen : an economic collapse, an EMP attack, nuclear fallout, a terrorist attack that disrupts the infrastructure, our government gone rogue against its citizens, all these things are capable of destroying the fabric of our society. Don’t take the risks lightly, just look around at all the madness in the world and start preparing now, until it’s too late!

It is almost that time a year again when we all start to think about getting out into the great outdoors once again. Whether your passion is hunting, hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing or one of the many other adventures that come with warm weather it is wise to start thinking about purchasing a knife you can carry with you. A knife is an all-purpose tool that can be used for safety, but for a variety of everyday tasks as well. For an inexperienced shopper it can be an intimidating undertaking without a little knowledge of knives to take with you.
There are a multitude of knife styles to choose from starting with fixed blade knife. A fixed blade knife is one of the sturdiest, most durable styles of knives. A fixed blade knife can easily be carried using a sheath attached to a boot or belt. This style of knife is great for any outdoors man but is especially helpful to paddlers and survivalists as it is incredibly handy. It can be released from its sheath in a hurry allowing cord, webbing or small brush to be cleared instantly.
Another style of knife is the folding blade knife. Most folding knives have a locking mechanism in place to ensure that the knife doesn’t release unexpectedly. Folding knives come in a variety of lengths and offer a great deal of versatility. Small folding knives, such as pocket knives are easily carried whereas larger folding knives can be stored easily in a pack. Some claim that the folding blade is not as durable as a fixed blade knife however with all the latest developments in knife technology this is highly debatable. Fixed knife blades also can include multiple tools that easily fold into themselves giving you a variety of easy to use tools. This is great for bikers as you never know when you will need a wrench or screwdriver out of the trails.
Blade type is also something to consider when purchasing a knife. There are three basic styles to choose from including: straight blades, serrated blades and a combination. As with anything each blade type has advantages and disadvantages.
A straight blade knife is a super nice tool as it is easy to sharpen and keep an edge on. Straight knife blades are great for cutting and make any meal easier especially when hiking or camping. Serrated edges have teeth built into the blade, much like a saw blade but not as enhanced. The teeth make this blade much easier to cut through bone, rope and limbs. It is also much more difficult to sharpen. A combination blade offers the advantages of both styles. The activity that you are partaking in should be considered when choosing a blade type.
The good thing about purchasing a knife is that it is a versatile tool that does not have to break the bank. You can purchase several knives and depending on the activity you are embarking on choose what to carry with you.

The recent disappearance and subsequent crash of Air France 447 has quickly become one of the 21st century’s first great mysteries. The modern world furnishes a great many of us with more communication mediums than we can shake a stick at; and while this is one of the great wonders of the modern world, it can also cause a lot of mysteries to snowball.
There are many theories as to what actually happened to Air France flight 447, and as is the way with the internet, these theories get built upon in a kind of virtual Chinese Whispers between forums, blogs and video hosting sites and it doesn’t take long before cries of conspiracy are flying.
The facts as they have been reported are: the flight departed Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 31st of May bound for Paris, France. Forty minutes after passing out of Brazilian airspace, the plane transmitted a four minute burst of automated error messages and was then not heard from again until debris and bodies were discovered on June 6th 2009 in the Atlantic Ocean. Autopsies performed on the recovered bodies have discovered that many of them have fractures consistent with the plane breaking apart in mid-air. The official investigation into the causes of the crash is still ongoing and as such, there has been no definitive statement from the airline as to the cause, which has only served to fan the flames of conspiracy theories.
There are several inconsistencies in the reported facts which have been picked up on by much of the internet’s public and have lots of people smelling a rat. Firstly is the official claim that the plane was lost in bad weather, possibly an electrical storm. Though many people will agree that this claim is plausible, there is the counterpoint that apparently twelve other planes flew a similar route within the same timeframe and did not report any issues with the weather. There have also been numerous experts going on record stating that the plane would easily withstand a direct hit from lightning, deepening the mystery of the broken limbs – if lightning didn’t cause the plane to break apart in mid-air, what did?
A terrorist bombing is the common answer to this question, but Air France flight 447’s circumstances differ in two vital ways compared to most terrorist bombings – firstly, no group has come forwards and claimed responsibility for it, which is usually the first thing that happens in the wake of a terrorist attack. Secondly, a bomb is a sudden, almost instant destruction; it is unlikely that the plane would transmit a four-minute stream of automated error messages.
The error messages are another source of conspiracy theories, leading people to think that the largely computerised plane had a computer virus which caused the system – and thus the plane – to crash, others have taken this to another level insinuating that the vehicle had been hacked.
There are several other theories floating around about the causes of the downing of Air France 447, and just as many logical answers debunking them. Ultimately, regardless of the findings of the official investigation and the inevitable subsequent work by the law and lawyers when the families of victims claim for compensation, the answers will most likely never be good enough and the mystery will live on through blogs, forums and YouTube for many years to come.
